The story of Prophet Sulaiman (AS) is a story of miracles, power, and deep humility. Despite ruling a kingdom that included humans, jinn, animals, and even the wind, Prophet Sulaiman (AS) remained humble.
Let’s learn about his powers.
Prophet Sulaiman (AS): The King Who Ruled the Wind
Prophet Sulaiman (AS) was not only a Prophet of Allah but also a powerful king. He was the son of Prophet Dawud (AS), and after his father’s passing, he inherited both kingship and prophethood. But Allah gave him something even more special: miracles that no other ruler in history ever had.
Sulaiman (AS) ruled with wisdom, fairness, and deep faith. Even though he had great power, he was humble and always thanked Allah. He knew that everything he had was a gift from his Lord.
His kingdom was unlike any other. It was not just made up of humans. Allah gave him control over the wind, the jinn, and even animals. Yet, with all this power, he remained a servant of Allah.
“And David was succeeded by Solomon, who said, ‘O people! We have been taught the language of birds, and been given everything ˹we need˺. This is indeed a great privilege.’” (Surah An-Naml 27:16)
A Throne Carried by the Wind
One of the greatest miracles of Prophet Sulaiman (AS) was his control over the wind.
Allah made the wind obey him. It carried him wherever he wished to go. He could travel long distances in a very short time. The Quran tells us that the wind would carry his throne across the lands.
This was not just a sign of power. It was a sign of Allah’s greatness. The wind, something no human can control, was made obedient to Sulaiman (AS). Through this miracle, people saw that true power belongs only to Allah, who gives it to whom He wills.
The Army of the Jinn
Another special gift given to Sulaiman (AS) was authority over the jinn. The jinn are beings created from smokeless fire. Humans cannot see them, but they exist.
Under Allah’s command, the jinn worked for Prophet Sulaiman (AS). They built great buildings, strong palaces, and beautiful structures. Among their works was the famous Temple built during his time, known for its beauty and strength.
The jinn could perform heavy, difficult tasks that humans could not. Yet even with this great control, Sulaiman (AS) never became proud. He always said that his power came from Allah alone. His miracles were not for showing off; they were a test of faith and responsibility.
When Animals Spoke, Prophet Sulaiman (AS) Understood
One of the most touching miracles of Prophet Sulaiman (AS) was his ability to understand animals.
Allah gave him the gift of hearing and understanding their speech.
There is a beautiful story in the Quran about a tiny ant. When Sulaiman’s army was passing through a valley, an ant warned the other ants to quickly return to their homes so they would not be crushed. When Sulaiman (AS) heard this, he smiled. He thanked Allah for allowing him to understand even the smallest of creatures.
Another famous story is about the Hoopoe Bird. This small bird brought important news to Sulaiman (AS) about the Queen of Sheba and her people, who were worshipping the Sun instead of Allah. Because of this bird’s message, Sulaiman (AS) was able to invite them toward the worship of the One True God.
These stories show that even the smallest creation of Allah has value and purpose.
The Silent Passing of Prophet Sulaiman (AS)
The death of Prophet Sulaiman (AS) was as unique as his life.
One day, he was standing, leaning on his stick. While in that position, Allah took his soul. He passed away quietly, still standing.
The jinn continued to work, thinking he was still watching over them. They did not know he had died. When a small worm slowly ate through his wooden stick, and it broke, his body fell to the ground.
At that moment, the jinn realized he had already passed away. They understood that they did not know the unseen. Only Allah knows all things hidden.
