Ramadan is divided into three parts called Ashras. The second Ashra, from the 11th to the 20th day, is known as the days of forgiveness. These ten days remind us to turn back to Allah and ask Him to forgive our sins.
The Dua of the Second Ashra
The special dua for the second Ashra is:
أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ رَبِّي مِنْ كُلِّ ذَنْبٍ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ
“I seek forgiveness from Allah, my Lord, from every sin and I repent to Him.”
This dua is short but very powerful. It teaches us to admit our mistakes and return to Allah with a sincere heart.
Why These Days Focus on Forgiveness
The second Ashra is a time to clean our hearts. Just as we wash our bodies, we also need to cleanse our souls of sin. During these days, Muslims think about their actions, feel sorry for their wrongdoings, and ask Allah to forgive them.
The Quran often reminds us of the importance of repentance. Allah loves those who turn back to Him again and again. Asking for forgiveness is not a sign of weakness. It is a sign of humility and faith.
Ramadan gives us a special chance to fix our mistakes and become better people.
How to Use This Dua in Daily Life
There are simple ways to make this dua part of your day:
1. Add It to Your Prayers
Recite the dua after your daily prayers. You can also read it after Taraweeh or during quiet moments when you are alone.
2. Connect It With Real Change
Forgiveness is not only words. It also means trying to improve.
- If you hurt someone, say sorry.
- If you made a mistake, try not to repeat it.
- If you missed good deeds, start doing them.
Use peaceful times, like before Suhoor or after Iftar, to reflect deeply on this dua and what it means.
3. Understand What You Are Saying
Do not just repeat the words quickly. Say them slowly. Think about each word. Feel that you are truly asking Allah to forgive you.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Some people rush through the dua without thinking. This reduces its impact. Always say it with focus and sincerity.
Another mistake is asking for forgiveness but not trying to change. True repentance means feeling sorry, stopping the sin, and deciding not to return to it.
Also, do not limit yourself to this dua alone. Make personal duas as well. Ask Allah to forgive specific mistakes and help you become better.
A Chance to Start Again
The second Ashra is a beautiful opportunity. No matter how many mistakes we have made, Allah’s mercy is greater. When we sincerely say, “I seek forgiveness from Allah,” we are opening the door to His mercy.
These ten days are a reminder that it is never too late to return to Allah, to cleanse our hearts, and to begin again with hope and faith.
